Phone interviews - possibly one of the most torturous ordeals in the history of interviews. Picture anticipating one of the most nerve-wracking interviews for an amazing internship opportunity at the university of your dreams.
The phone rings, and you're ready with a pen and a piece of paper. The professor informs you that he will read a paragraph concerning a particular experiment, and you will be asked questions on it. This seems easy enough. Unfortunately, not if you have an attention span of a maximum of two seconds and the hearing of a fish in a bowl of water. After hearing the passage, you have two words written down "patient" and "family", and you can't remember a single thing they've just read to you. So begins the interrogation. "Paraphrase that passage for me."
silence.
This leads to the professor being completely confused - is the interviewee hard of hearing, or just didn't understand the passage.. or...?
You tell the professor that you're just having a bad day and that you lost a bit of focus while the professor was reading the passage. The professor doesn't believe you, and asks if this happens often, to which you say no. The professor still doesn't believe you, and tells you that you should possibly seek professional help as this could possibly be a "mental problem."
